With involvement and input from key stakeholders, and thanks to the leadership of our board and support from Lilly, I am delighted to share our new mission statement:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>To save the lives of RET-positive lung cancer patients by advancing research and treatment options.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In pursuit of our mission, our goals are to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Fund and facilitate <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/research\/\">research<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Foster communication among the <a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/ret-webinars\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">scientific community<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Educate and encourage patient participation in biomarker testing, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/current-clinical-trials\/\">clinical trials<\/a><\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/ret-patient-registries\/\">lung cancer registries<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Raise funds and administer grants with transparent <a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/financials\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">financials<\/span><\/a> and sound <a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/board\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">governance<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>On today\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lcfamerica.org\/get-involved\/raise-awareness\/honoring-world-lung-cancer-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Lung Cancer Day<\/a><\/span> and every day, we are dedicated to being the go-to resource for RET-positive patients and caregivers. That\u2019s why The Happy Lungs Project is here: <\/span><b>To help you understand RET-positive research and what it means for current treatment options and future therapies.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our recent survey showed us what respondents want to know about RET-positive research, with questions like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\u201cAre you researching how to keep one\u2019s body strong while going through cancer treatments?\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\u201cCan you explain why this type of cancer is often caught so late and progresses so fast?\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\u201cWhat are new second generation treatments?\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\u201cIs there anything coming down the pike for RET positive patients?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>We enhanced our website content in response to the survey responses we received and the needs of RET-positive lung cancer patients and caregivers<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/current-clinical-trials\/\"><b>RET-Positive Lung Cancer Clinical Trial Matching<\/b><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Clinical trials offer hope to patients \u2013 and critical information to researchers that can lead to improved treatment options. We provide information about the latest clinical trials for RET-positive patients. Use our tool to match to a trial.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Video Q&amp;A Series<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Coming soon, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we will host a video series to help you make sense of the science, featuring questions from patients and caregivers that are answered by scientists and doctors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/current-treatment-options-for-ret-lung-cancer\/\"><b>Current RET Treatments<\/b><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Lung cancer staging matters. Why? So your doctor can properly assess the spread of disease and identify the optimal treatment option. For patients with RET fusions or other RET mutations, there are targeted therapies that work to selectively block the RET molecule.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/resistance-when-ret-non-small-cell-lung-cancer-treatments-stop-working\/\"><b>Resistance to RET Treatment<\/b><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Cancer drug resistance means that a tumor no longer responds to anticancer drugs that were once effective. This can be a significant challenge, as it may limit treatment options and affect the patient\u2019s prognosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/research\/\"><b>HLP Funded Scientific Research Grants<\/b><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; We seek to support researchers and clinicians in their work toward a cure for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer caused by the RET mutation. While current treatments like Selpercatinib improve patient outcomes greatly, they are not a cure; some patients develop resistance, while others fail to respond. That\u2019s why we aim to provide the resources necessary to develop treatments for NSCLC caused by the RET mutation, including novel drugs, procedures, and immunotherapies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/happylungsproject.org\/ret-patient-registries\/\"><b>Patient Registries<\/b><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; We urge patients to share their medical histories with the lung cancer registries, because it creates a larger sample from which to make statistically meaningful interpretations.
